Lee Spraggs will meet John Rednall in the Suffolk BE County 2-Wood final at Marlborough Bowls Club on August 2, a repeat of last season’s Champion of Champions showdown which was won by the former.
Thurlton bowler Spraggs defeated Felixstowe & Suffolk’s Lee Calver 18-12 at Marlborough, at the weekend, while Calver’s team-mate Rednall was a 19-8 victor over Framlingham’s Tony Chuter.
Both Rednall and Spraggs will also go into the national finals to be held at Leamington Spa next month as will the two Suffolk finalists in the 4-Wood singles.
Spraggs once again features in that, having defeated Felixstowe & Suffolk’s Adrian Holden 21-18. He will now face Alli Leeks in the final after the Framlingham man defeated Ipswich B.C’s Phil Page 21-12. Rednall was last year’s county 4-Wood winner.
In the Pairs, Lowestoft Railway duo Danny and Geoff Ramsbottom will face Roy Bareham and Gordon Williams from Cornard in the county final, while also progressing through to the national stage at Leamington.
The Ramsbottoms were too good for Lee Calver and Adrian Holden, winning 25-12, while Bareham and Williams saw off the challenge of Ipswich B.C’s Scott Sampson and James Rous, 23-11.
Last year’s Triples winners were knocked out at the semi-final stage this time round when Rookery’s Justin King, Carl Riches and John Gockelen lost 17-13 to John Rednall, Clive Webb and Adrian Holden.
The other semi-final saw Christian Allum, Kevin Halls and Shane Wildon from California overcome Cornard trio Peter Crisp, Graham Gooderham and Graham Rowland.
In the Fours, home players Dominic Warren, Liam Stevens, Ashley Sale and Phil Last progressed through to the county final with victory over Thurlton’s Craig Parfitt, Robert Kerry, Marl Cole and Lee Spraggs. They will play Adrian Holden’s Felixstowe & Suffolk rink after they prevailed against Paul Bugg’s rink from Rookery.
The Champion of Champions final will be contested between Thurlton’s Ryan Claxton and Felixstowe’s Paul Proctor, after victories against Marlborough’s Phil Last (21-8) and Hadleigh’s Pete Miller (21-10) respectively.
The Over-60 Pairs final will be between the Lowestoft Railway duo of Roger Flatt and Geoff Ramsbottom and Norbridge pair Billy Elliston and John Carr.
In the Novice Singles, Melton’s Derek Sharp will face Beccles’ Owen Wright in a final showdown on August 2, while Debbie and Steve Allum from California are yet to discover their opponents in the Mixed Pairs final.
The county final winners of the 2-wood, 4-wood, pairs, triples and fours at Marlborough on August 2, will progress on to the national finals at Leamington Spa.
The Champion of Champions, Over-60 Pairs, Novice Singles and Mixed Pairs winners will also battle it out on August 2 but will not progress to Leamington Spa.
