TWO Suffolk schoolboy rugby teams have won their way through to two national finals with a chance of playing at Twickenham, the sports headquarters.

Horringer Schoolboys Under 12s and St James' Middle School Under 13s, from Bury St Edmunds, will be the Suffolk representatives in the National County finals of the Zurich Daily Telegraph competition. It takes place at Richmond Rugby Club where the top four finalists will then go forward to semi finals and a final at Twickenham.

The semi final games will be staged as a curtain raiser before the Army versus Navy match at the end of the season, with the final scheduled for half time in the services match.

Ipswich Rugby Club hosted the Suffolk stage of the competition for state primary schools. Sixteen teams took part in the two age groups from all parts of Suffolk including Lowestoft, Halesworth, Framlingham, Bury St Edmunds, Woodbridge and Kesgrave.

In the Under 12 final Horringer beat Kesgrave 20-0 and in the Under 13s final St James' Middle beat Westley Middle, from Bury St Edmunds, 25-0.

Darren Hines, who organised the event at Humber Doucy Lane said: "There was plenty of good quality rugby from very keen and committed youngsters. It will be great to think that maybe one or even both of our successful Suffolk finalists could make it through to Twickenham."
