A WORKMANLIKE Somerset side were just too good for Suffolk in this semi-final of the English Schools Under-19 Inter County Cup played in wet and windy conditions at Bent Lane.

A Goodison Park final against Merseyside awaited the winners and Somerset went ahead after 36 minutes when Kirk rounded goalkeeper Cudworth for an easy goal.

Cudworth had made two splendid saves before the goal and Suffolk never threatened until the hour mark when Challis fired in an effort from near the halfway line which slipped through the goalkeeper's hands for a fortunate equaliser.

However, Somerset were back in front 60 seconds later when Barry scored with a spectacular flying header.

The closest Suffolk came to an another equaliser was when a fine shot from 25 yards from Wake was brilliantly pushed away by goalkeeper Buckingham at full stretch.

The rest of the second half saw defences in control for most of the while although Cudworth was forced to make a smart save at close range following a goalmouth scramble.
