Teenage bowls ace Katherine Rednall has belied her tender years after being selected for the senior England women’s outdoor team.

The Stowmarket High School pupil attended her first-ever trials at Leamington Spa over the weekend and will play in the team that defends the British Isles Series in Jersey next June.

The Baylham youngster’s selection has capped off a remarkable few weeks for the Rednall family with an England Senior Indoor trial also looming for the 17-year-old later this year and her dad John’s selection for the England men’s team, for the 27th consecutive year.

“I am really pleased and it is an honour to have been picked for my country,” said sixth-former Rednall, who plays outdoors for Felixstowe & Suffolk.

“There was a bit of doubt in my mind as I played well in my first game but, like everyone, I seemed to struggle in the second.

“It could have gone either way and I wasn’t sure whether I might miss out because of my age.

“But now I am in, It’s a step closer to me for the Commonwealth Games and World Championships and I have got to prove I deserve to be part of the team.”

Rednall, one of four new caps, will play the lead for 2010 Commonwealth gold medallist Ellen Falkner’s rink and highlighted the role her dad John has played in her development.

“I have watched the England senior men in a number of trials, in fact, I think I went to my first when I was just one,” added Rednall, who hopes to continue her studies at university next year.

“The men, even more so than the women, really go for it in the trials and I have probably learned more from the men’s game than anything else.”
