ROBERT Taylor, who left Brett Vale six months ago to take the professional's job at Colne Valley, did himself proud in the EEIBA Charity Championship at Braintree last week.

He finished in joint fourth place after rounds of 73 and 69 to finish three shots behind the winner Andrew Duffin from Clacton who played in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth the previous week.

Jon Bevan, now attached at Ufford Park and last year's winner of the East Region Order of Merit, also played at Wentworth and did not make the cut. Bevan finished well down the field at Braintree after rounds of 75, 72.

Robin Mann (Ufford Park), who spends much of his time teaching on cruise ships, is now regarded in the veteran class. But Mann, Suffolk's best player for many years, showed that his game is still there as he produced a second round level par 70 to add to his first round 74. He finished in joint 12th position, but still has it in him to win an event of this stature in the future.

Of the other Suffolk players, Tony Dobson (Bourne Hill Driving Range) finished on 145 (73, 72), while other scores included: 150- Alex Lucas (Fynn Valley) 76, 74; 151- Paul Wilby (Fynn Valley) 76, 75; 152- Stuart Robertson (Ufford Park) 80, 72; 154- Kevin Lovelock (Stoke-by-Nayland) 75, 79; 155- Paul Bate (Brett Vale) 82, 73; 156- Martin Elsworthy (Rookery Park) 74, 82; 161- Shane Warren (Ufford Park) 80, 81.
