Tranmere Rovers 1 Colchester Utd 1

Stuart Watson

AIDY Boothroyd picked up his third successive away draw as Colchester manager as Tranmere Rovers recorded their first league point in seven matches courtesy of a 1-1 draw.

In an end-to-end first half, John Barnes' side took a 35th minute lead when midfielder John Welsh slammed home after keeper Ben Williams had parried a fierce Marlon Broomes strike from outside the box.

Colchester took just two minutes to equalise though as John-Joe O'Toole was left with a simple finish after Kayode Odejayi capitalised on some poor defending.

The action packed first half slowed down after the break, however, both sides had chances to win it in the dying moments.

First Tranmere were denied a winner when substitute Kithson Bain's scrambled effort was disallowed for offside, while at the other end the ball got stuck under Odejayi's feet when two yards out.
