Despite a good second half display, Ipswich failed to get anything from this crucial relegation battle, and must now look with trepidation to their remaining nine games.

Ipswich began positively enough, but as the game progressed they failed to get their passing game together, and rarely looked like scoring.

Blackburn pressed the Ipswich defence hard and in the eighteenth minute Sereni made a fantastic save from an Unsal shot. However, a minute later he could do nothing as Dunn made a solo run to score Blackburn's first goal.

Ipswich immediately switched to a back four, bringing Hreidarsson to a left back position, but couldn't keep possession. The front pairing of Stewart and Armstrong seemed isolated from the midfield, and Ipswich failed to get in a single shot until the forty-first minute. Then, some good play between the front two saw Armstrong put the ball in the Blackburn net, only to be ruled offside.

On 43 minutes Blackburn's positive attacking play paid off once again when Dunn made a great pass to Cole, who turned and made it 2-0.

After half time, Ipswich reverted to three at the back. After a ragged start they began to look more positive. On 52 minutes a Mark Venus corner fell for Stewart who beat the Blackburn keeper making it 2-1 and giving Ipswich a lifeline.

Immediately Town made a double substitution, bringing on Peralta and Marcus Bent for Magilton and Armstrong. Ipswich began to play with more urgency and created some good chances while Blackburn struggled to make any impact.

It was all too little, too late, however, as despite some good chances Ipswich failed to score again.

Defeat by Blackburn puts Ipswich down to seventeenth, and only goal difference keeps Town out of the relegation zone.
