IPSWICH Town's senior youth team returned home from the Midlands with a comfortable victory over the Wolves youngsters.

Trialist goalkeeper Price proved an able replacement on his debut in the Town goal and the visitors made plenty of chances with controlled passing and confident runs.

The first goal came after 22 minutes when Lee Beevers cut in from the left touchline and tried a cross-cum-shot which deceived the keeper as it passed by defenders and went inside the far post.

On the half-hour it was Ian Westlake's chase to gather a ball that looked lost that made the second. He beat his defender out wide and delivered the ball to Steve Burton to smash home from close range.

Five minutes into the second half Ipswich were 3-0 up. Full-back Erdem Artun went on a surging run and crossed to the far post where Matt Richards headed home.

Burton added the fourth, after he received a through-ball inside the penalty box and tucked his shot inside the post.

Ken Goody, academy assistant director, said: "It was a comfortable victory in the end but they were a big strong side."

IPSWICH: Price, Artun (Cox), Bonwick, Snowdon, Chaffey, Beevers (Connell), Bloomfield Westlake, Richards, Burton and Dickinson.

IPSWICH U17s had to be content with a point but were left to rue the goals that got away.

First Stuart Boardley had the ball in the Wolves net from a quick free kick, that had been taken with the referee's permission, only for it to be disallowed.

In the second half schoolboy Blair Hammond ran on to a fine through ball from Marc Smith and fired home but it was disallowed for

offside.

The Ipswich system was disrupted when Marc Smith had to go off with a badly cut head in the second half, with Sam Morrow dropping back into midfield.
