DARREN Currie, 32, has joined League One Luton Town on a two-year deal.

The midfielder joined Ipswich for £250,000 in December 2004 making 89 appearances and scoring nine goals. His Portman Road contract was not renewed when it ended on June 30.

Luton boss Kevin Blackwell said: “Darren is an old head whose job will be to help nurture our young lads through.

“We had a young squad who lacked experience in certain areas and at certain times in games last year and Darren will provide us with some extra strength in midfield.”

Currie joined pre-season training with his new colleagues yesterday. He made his name at Barnet, before moving on to Wycombe and Brighton.

Currie spent time on loan at both Coventry and Derby County last season and was reported to be close to signing full time for both - Coventry at Christmas and Derby after he was in their squad that won promotion through the play-offs.

He was also involved in friendly games for Los Angles Galaxy.

IPSWICH-raised striker Darryl Knights has agreed a one-year deal with Yeovil Town. The 19-year-old made one senior appearance for the Blues, as a late substitute at Sunderland in November 2004. Knights was a key player in Town's FA Youth Cup win in 2005 and joined Yeovil on loan during February.
