VANESSA Bell, Suffolk's lady golf tournament professional, is looking forward to the new season with considerable confidence. She may be set for her best-ever season.

She has finished her warm-weather preparation in Spain where she has been under the watchful eye of John Morgan who won the PGA Europro title at Ufford Park last October.

While Morgan was getting tuned up for this year's Challenge Tour in an effort to regain his European Tour card, Vanessa's next challenge will be in South Africa.

She flies on February 17 to take part in the four South African ladies' majors and said: “Preparation has been going pretty well. My game is coming on by leaps and bounds.”

Vanessa and John will play together in the Sunningdale Foursomes next month when they could come up against Keith Preston, the Aldeburgh professional, and Robert Joyce who is professional at West Essex.

Vanessa plans to play in the Roehampton Gold Cup before having a break during which she has an assignment in the Portuguese Algarve to help with a ladies' golf clinic on behalf of her sponsors, Oceanico Developments.

The Telia Tour starts at the end of May. “I did well enough last year to have full playing rights on the Telia Tour this year so I will be spending most of the summer in Scandinavia.”

If all Vanessa's winter work pays dividends, then she could be making the big break through of which she has always dreamed.
