TWO points from their first six Jewson League Premier Division match may not look too impressive, but Ipswich Wanderers manager Alan Dilloway says that there have been many encouraging signs.

Dilloway takes his side to St Neots tomorrow to play in the first qualifying round of the FA Cup looking to make progress in this most glamourous of competitions.

In the last round Wanderers beat Kempston, who play in the same United Counties Premier Division as St Neots.

And they made sure that Ipswich Wanderers now feature high in the history of the FA Cup. The records have been re-written with Winston and Jermaine Harewood both scoring against Kempston to become the first father and son to net in the same game in the history of the competition.

"This has put us on the map," said Dilloway. "But we don't want to leave it at that. There is a huge financial incentive with £7,500 the prize for winning tomorrow.

"And we also want to boost our confidence to improve our league situation. I know nothing about St Neots apart from the fact that they are higher in the table than Kempston.

"We will have our work cut out, but there have been enough encouraging signs in the season so far – despite our lack of points – to give us confidence for another cup victory."

Dilloway took over the Wanderers job for the second time last Spring. "They are a wonderful club, with some nice people and professionally run," he said.

Wanderers have signed former Norwich City and Rotherham player Glyn Roberts, plus ex-Cambridge United man Lenny Pack. Another ex-professional, Scott Darton, recently signed and played for the reserves last week although he is unlikely to feature in the first team for a couple of weeks.

Dilloway's squad for the match at Gorleston recently contained eight players aged 18 or under. Two youngsters studying at the Ipswich Wanderers PASE scheme are in the first team party tomorrow, Jermaine Harewood and Jamie Baker.

"We have some talented youngsters coming through," added Dilloway. Stowmarket are also looking to bolster their financial coffers – and keep in the competition – when they visit Essex Senior League Concord Rangers.

In the Premier Division of the Jewson League, Felixstowe and Walton United are at home to Lowestoft Town looking to beat their Suffolk rivals, while in Division One, Leiston Town are in good heart after two wins, to take on Dereham at home.

Hadleigh United entertain King's Lynn Reserves and Needham Market travel to Warboys. In the only preliminary match in the Suffolk Senior Cup AFC Sudbury reserves are at home to Whitton United.
