FELIXSTOWE contrived not to win a game which they dominated for all but the opening five minutes and in the end they were forced to settle for a point despite creating numerous opportunities.

Athletic, who need the points to avoid relegation, started brightly.

And the visitors caught Felixstowe cold when their centre-forward got to a well struck cross ahead of his marker to deflect the ball past keeper Paul Ellis.

This was the last time Athletic threatened Felixstowe's goal and Ellis spent the rest of the game as a spectator while his forwards put on an attacking display which had everything except a quality of finish.

Within ten minutes Felixstowe were level when Olly Holloway, Steve Taylor and Gavin Haggart combined to work the ball around and through the Athletic defence to leave Taylor a simple tap in at by the post.

Similar work from the forwards resulted in Haggart's shot being blocked on the line by an illegal Athletic foot, but James Walker saw his penalty flick saved by the Athletic keeper.

The second half was even more one sided than the first and in an attempt to go in front Felixstowe pulled off a defender and played an extra forward.

However, this ploy failed to result in a goal as it only succeeded in crowding the Athletic circle and denying the space for Felixstowe to get clear strikes at goal.

With the clock running down Felixstowe reverted to a more conventional front line and this gave them more space to create chances, but they still could not find a way through the Peterborough defence.

Repeated short corner strikes were blocked by the keeper and when Felixstowe won a second penalty stroke they again watched him pull off a good save from Taylor's effort.

HAIL and snow which completely covered the Tuddenham Road pitch did Ipswich East Suffolk no favours as they entertained Clacton.

Although Clacton had equalised a seventh minute opener from Sam Gibson, the seasiders had travelled with just 11 players and a reserve

goalkeeper.

IES, fighting to avoid relegation from Premier Division A of the Printwize East League, will now stage the match again on the first available slip date, which is likely to be March 23.
