Whitton face crucial period as boss Coldron looks to fire his team back into Thurlow Premier

Whitton United boss Shane Coldron says his team’s next four games could well define the Ipswich-based club’s season.
The Greens are enjoying a terrific campaign in Thurlow One and have promotion back to the Thurlow Premier within their grasp.
They are second in the table, behind Woodbridge, four points adrift but with a game in hand and crucially, they still have to meet the ‘Peckers twice, including on the final day of the season.
It all adds up to a fascinating last few months of the season for Whitton.
“It’s a crucial four games coming up,” Coldron said.
“We are at Braintree Res tomorrow night, weather permitting, Swaffham on Saturday, Debenham, then Woodbridge.
“It’s a tough run of games against some of the best teams in the league. We are exceeding our expectations and I still expect Woodbridge to win the title. They have been together two or three seasons as a group.
“But promotion is the most important thing for us. Yes, it would be great to win the championship, but we want to get back up to Step 5. With changes to the pyramid at Step 6, I think it is crucial we do.”
You wouldn’t bet against Whitton going up. In fact you wouldn’t bet against them winning the league.
Coldron has assembled a strong squad, experienced players like Kevin Inglis, Duane Wright and Scott Majoram, complimenting many of the Whitton young guns.
It’s proving a potent combination, but Coldron admits it does come with its issues.
“It’s a great combination, but I have a fully-fit squad at the moment, which is nice. But that means players are having to be left out. It’s a better problem to have than not having enough players. But some can rightly be frustrated.
“I’m fending off seven-day approaches for some of my players as well. I try to tell them to stick with what we are doing here at Whitton.”
Whitton are the division’s leading goalscorers too, having already notched 107 goals! Recently they beat Team Bury 10-0 and Norwich United reserves 11-2.
“The goals are coming from all over the park,” Condron added.
“Which is simply great.”
