Witches gear up for Panthers battle

IPSWICH Witches will be looking for their first win in eight meetings tonight, as they entertain the Peterborough Panthers in an Elite League B fixture at Foxhall Stadium.

The Witches have recently hosted two of the Elite Leagues big guns, in Coventry and Swindon, and having lost out to both, will look to take the points from another of the league's top sides, the play-off contending Panthers.

Peterborough's last visit to Suffolk ended in victory, as they won 46-43 in a close meeting in August, though the scores were not so close in the first leg of the 'B' fixture at the East Of England Showground, where the Panthers romped to a 62-30 victory to all but certainly secure the bonus point.

For the Witches Jesper B Jensen again looks set to miss out, having not fully recovered from a rib injury suffered in Poland last month, so rider replacement will operate at number one, with the rest at the side at full strength.

With the season drawing to a close, and only pride left to salvage for the home side, the management will have one eye on building a team for next season, with the likes of Marcin Rempala looking to catch the eye, and maintain the good form the Polish reserve has been showing in the recent home meetings against Coventry and Swindon.

Both Kim Jansson and Zibi Suchecki will also know that they need to impress, in order to secure themselves a place in the Witches 2008 side.

Peterborough team manager Trevor Swales has selection problems, with Dane Niels Kristian Iversen missing due to an ankle injury, meaning rider replacement at number three in place of a rider that has sometimes struggled in Suffolk.

Another rider who historically struggles around Foxhall is Lukas Dryml, who has withdrawn from the meeting due to stomach problems. Dryml also memorably missed the Panthers last visit to Ipswich in August. Peterborough will be looking to book a guest in place of the Czech.

The meeting sees the return of two former Witches in Hans Andersen and Daniel King, both of whom have performed well in an Ipswich race jacket in recent seasons.

Andersen, who will ride despite being shaken in a heavy heat eight crash in Saturdays Polish GP, recovered from an early fall to score 10+1 on his last visit, while current asset King managed an impressive 13+1 in that meeting, beating both Jensen and Chris Louis in the process.

Completing the Panthers side is young Danish rider Kenneth Bjerre who scored 11 points last time out, and reserves Piotr Swiderski and Christian Hefenbrock, the later coming in as a replacement for Richard Hall, who has a broken ankle.

With the Panthers jostling with Poole to secure third place in the final table, this meeting promises to deliver some close racing, with both sides keen to come away with the win.

Ipswich: 1 Rider replacement, 2 K Jansson, 3 C Louis, 4 T Kroner, 5 R Miskowiak, 6 M Rempala, 7 Z Suchecki

Peterborough: 1 H Andersen, 2 Guest, 3 Rider replacement, 4 D King, 5 K Bjerre, 6 P Swiderski, 7 C Heffenbrock
