A ROW is brewing today over Eastbourne's decision to call off this Saturday's speedway Knock-Out Cup first round match against Ipswich at Arlington Stadium.

The Evening Star Witches are ready for action, with the first leg taking place at Foxhall Stadium this Thursday.

Eastbourne's scheduled challenge match against Arena-Essex was postponed at the weekend because of a waterlogged track. They quickly re-arranged it for this Saturday to give their new-look side some home practice before the home leg of their big cup clash with Ipswich.

Furious Ipswich promoter John Louis today sad: "Eastbourne did warn me that they might do this switch, but I am not happy and I will be speaking to the authorities today.

"What worth is there in a fixture list when it can get changed so early in the season? My riders have received their notifications of the date and have organised their diaries accordingly.

"And our supporters' club has arranged a coach and I know scores of fans have made plans to travel to Sussex this Saturday."

If, as it appears likely, Eastbourne's plans to face Arena-Essex this Saturday are sanctioned, a new date will have to be set for Ipswich's cup visit.

It was going to be a hectic weekend for the Witches as they ride a challenge match at Peterborough on Sunday at 2.30pm, giving their riders little time to get their bikes washed and ready to make Manchester on Monday night for their first Sky Sports Elite League match of the season at Belle Vue.
