IPSWICH Evening Star Witches lost their second speedway meeting to the weather this week when their fixture against Wolverhampton was rained off.

The Suffolk side rode just one heat in their Sky Bet Elite League meeting at Eastbourne on Monday, but they never got close to starting at Foxhall Stadium last night.

Referee Paul Carrington, Witches vice-captain Hans Andersen and Wolves skipper Steve Johnston walked the track to the first bend by which time they made a decision to call a halt.

This was at 6.35pm with steady rain falling and the forecast for the remainder of the evening poor.

No new date has yet been arranged, with Ipswich's next scheduled action next Thursday when they host Arena-Essex in the first leg of the Elite League Knock-Out Cup quarter-final.

They will be without Slovenian Grand Prix-bound Andersen for that meeting, with skipper Chris Louis also a big doubt after being out for four weeks with a fractured kneecap.

Louis hopes to have some practice somewhere during the week to test his fitness.
