A TEAM of four from Woodbridge have qualified for the national finals of the Team of Four Champion-ship, sponsored by the Daily Star, in Spain in December.
Paul Boon, Steve Mann, Alan Middle and Ian Fuller, who go under the name of Club Colours, qualified by winning the regional final at Thetford.
This is the first year they have entered the competition and now they look forward to five days of competition against four other regional finalists with the last day being played at Valderamma.
In the round-robin group Woodbridge came runners-up to Ipswich when the format was Hambro scoring matchplay.
Despite losing two of their four matches, Woodbridge took the runners-up spot on the number of holes they won overall.
They beat Rookery Park by nine holes and Ipswich by seven holes at Woodbridge, but lost at Brett Vale by two holes and by just one hole at Fynn Valley.
In the regional final at a very windy Thetford, the format was combined Stableford and Woodbridge beat Collingtree Park by just one point - 79 to 78.
Woodbridge boosts a team that all play off single figures. Paul Boon is off nine while his partner Steve Mann plays off six. The other pairing is Alan Middle, off four, and nine-handicapper Ian Fuller.
In the finals in Spain the format will revert to Hambro scoring matchplay.
The competition, that attracts entries from all over the UK, has had 30 per cent more teams than last year.
