OWEN Pearl is another Suffolk youngster showing the sort of form which could see him make a name for himself in golf.

The 12-year-old, who plays off a handicap of 17, has recently won two junior competitions at Stoke-by-Nayland with two nett scores of 61 and looks definitely a player for the future.

Owen's father, David, said: "He started swinging a plastic golf club as soon as he could walk and adopted a left-handed swing by mirroring my own right-handed swing.

"From the age of six he received professional tuition from Roly Hitchcock, Shaun Leek and Kevin Lovelock at Stoke-by-Nayland and also from Tim Cooper at Newton Green."

Three years ago Owen became a junior member at Stoke and was given a starting handicap of 28.

During that time he has had a great deal of success in junior competitions.

Recently he has been included in the Suffolk Under-12s set-up where he has had the benefit of coaching and guidance from Felixstowe Ferry professional Ian MacPherson.

Stoke-by-Nayland have produced some outstanding juniors in recent years like Jamie Moul and the Dainty brothers, to name but three, now Owen is hoping to follow in their footsteps.
