Award-winning producer Ellen Kent returns to the Ipswich Regent with two classic operas – La Traviata and Madama Butterfly.

The first, on January 31, is Verdi’s interpretation of La Dame aux Camelias by Alexander Dumas, a tragic, passionate, love story. It stars acclaimed soprano Alyona Kistenyova in the role of Violetta.

Leading soprano Maria HeeJung Kim, of the Korean National Opera, plays the title role in Puccini’s heart-breaking story of the young Japanese girl who falls in love with an American naval lieutenant with dramatic consequences. It takes the stage on March 25.

Both operas will be conducted by Vasyl Vasylenko, the artistic director and conductor at the National President’s Orchestra of Ukraine, and played by 30 members of the National Ukrainian Orchestra.

Next week also sees the return of The Russian State Ballet of Siberia.
