Death defying stunts, breath-taking tricks, cars from some of your favourite films - Festival of Wheels roars into Ipswich for the first time this weekend.
What?
The Festival of Wheels is a two-day-event dedicated to car enthusiasts, it will include a mix of cars, bikes, trucks and all things motoring. It will be the largest event of its kind in the south-east with the rarest and most glamorous vehicles. Types of vehicles you can expect are muscle cars, supercars, modified mayhem, movie cars, Clive Shaw trucking and lots more. There will be an array of shows, competitions, and great activities to get involved in.
When and where?
The extravaganza will be taking place this weekend, August 4 and 5, at Trinity Park in Ipswich. The event will run from 10am until 5pm on both days.
Tickets
Tickets are cheaper if you buy them in advance online. For an advance adult ticket it costs £10.99, on the gate it will be £18. Children aged 10-15 years-old cost £7.99 in advance and £10 on the gate. Under 10’s and carers are free. A family ticket is also available for two adults and two children if you buy this online today it will cost £29.99 on the gate £42.
Extras at the show
As well as the packed vehicle line-up there are also lots of other things to do. There is a ‘Little Dubbers Fun Area’ for children which has inflatables, racing simulation, a fun fair, donkey rides, a chance to meet The Hulk, Nerf Gun wars, children’s entertainers and more. On top of this there are trade and shopping area’s, live music from a range of performers, an open air cinema and a food and drink area.
Camping?
If you fancy making a whole weekend of it there is also the option to camp. This means you can bring a tent, caravan or motorhome. Prices to camp are £24.99 for an adult and £21.99 for a child.
Register your vehicle
If you have a vehicle you want to show off at the festival you can register it online now. The gates for show vehicles open at 7.30am and you must be parked by 9.30am. There will also be competitions with these vehicles including best classic car, best custom car, best motorbike, best camper and more.
What the founder has to say
James Martin founded Motor Show Events with Karl Rushen and All Advertising. They’ve hosted several successful shows and festivals over the years including Motorfest at Barleylands Farm, Essex, which attracted 30,000 people this year.
James Martin said: “We were looking for a new home to grow our show and we feel we’ve found that with Trinity Park in Ipswich. We want to make Festival of Wheels Suffolk the largest event of its kind in the south east.
“It gathers together the east coast’s rarest and most glamorous cars, bikes and trucks. It’s an intoxicating mix for those with a passion for all things motoring.”
“We have two amazing stunt teams with Bolddog FMX on Saturday with the largest most sophisticated FMX landing ramp ever seen anywhere in the world.
“It enables riders to jump gaps over 75ft and perform tricks which involve the rider leaving the seat in mid air. The show features a wide selection of freestyle motocross tricks such as the superman seat grab to the kiss of death.
“Broke FMX Stunt Team on Sunday consists of massive jumps up vertical walls, breath-taking drop offs, a full range of freestyle tricks and other stunts which will leave you in disbelief.”
Shows
There are so many shows taking place throughout the weekend including an extreme bike battle.
The battle will see the UK’s best riders from BMX and MTB going head to head in a stunt battle. The LowRiders Showdown continues the mayhem with some of the craziest dancing cars you’ve ever seen. For football fans mourning the World Cup ending, there’s Motoball; while big burley tractors pop wheelies as they race around the track.
If watching isn’t enough, strap in and climb aboard the Red Dragon Monster Ride Truck with its 6.5 litre Chevy V8 engine. If you’ve ever wanted to drive a big truck, Clive Shaw Trucking gives you the chance to get behind the wheel.
Fancy seeing some of the cars from your favourite movies up close?
The Tumbler from Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins will on show at Festival of Wheels. It’s the first time it’s been on show in the UK, having arrived from a tour of Europe. The vehicle is 16ft long, 9ft wide and comes complete with flaming afterburner and front-mounted flame throwers.
“We’ve lots of cars coming, from the showman’s truck in Smokey and the Bandit to Herbie and Bumblebee from the Transformer movies,” says James.
There’s something for all the family at Festival of Wheels not just petrol heads. The highly rated Happy’s Circus, a professional, animal free, show also makes its debut visit.
