IPSWICH-based amateur theatre group Appeal is to produce the musical Thoroughly Modern Millie, it has today been announced.

The group will perform the show at the New Wolsey Theatre in Civic Drive from July 6 to 11.

Director John Whelton said: “Thoroughly Modern Millie is a high-spirited musical romp that has all of New York dancing the Charleston.

“The 1920s musical took Broadway by storm.”

Set in New York City in 1922, it tells the story of young Millie Dillmount who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.

John added: “Filled with frisky flappers, dashing leading men and a dragon-lady of a villainess, whom audiences will love to hate, Thoroughly Modern Millie is a perfectly constructed evening of madcap merriment.”

The first pre-audition rehearsal takes place at St Luke's Hall, Cliff lane, Ipswich on January 13 at 7.30pm.

The show is choreographed by Suzie Lowe and Jo King is musical director.

Appeal performed the musical Working at the New Wolsey last year

The Appeal Theatre Group was formed in 1973 and produces a major musical at the venue every summer.
