It was great to see the Regent packed out for a bona fide soul diva.
Knight has a fabulous voice and she filled the room with her soulful style, ripping it up right from the first bars of Soul Survivor.
She was accompanied by a four-piece band and three backing singers with some great choreographed moves that harked back to the Stax and Motown Reviews of the 1960s and they had the audience on their feet from the third song.
Knight is touring her new album and this is the first time she has been on the road for five years. The break in the West End only seems to have reminded her how much she loves live gigging.
As well as new songs, When I See You Again, there were also past favourites such as I Can’t Stand The Rain and an Earth Wind and Fire tribute medley. I have to applaud the technical staff for the brilliant sound quality, showing her voice and the songs off for the best.
By the time we got to Get Up and Shoulda Woulda Coulda the band were cooking - as was the Regent - and Knight had us joining in with everything. She really gives it her all and the crowd got what they came for.
