One of the Queen’s favourite musicians is heading to Ipswich for one-night only.
Jazz singer and saxophonist Ray Gelato, dubbed the godfather of swing, has performed at Her Majesty’s request at private functions at The Ritz. He was also the lead act at Paul McCartney and Heather Mill’s wedding reception and has shared a stage with Robbie Williams.
His band The Giants will join him for A Night at The Red Riviera, at Ipswich’s Trinity Park, on June 9.
“I am thrilled to be playing for a brand new crowd and introducing them to my music. I grew up listening to the likes of Sammy Davis, Dean Martin, Bill Haley and Little Richard thanks to my father’s collection of great records,” said Ray.
“I would hang out in London’s best rockabilly clubs and started to learn how to play the tenor sax. I never looked back. Obviously playing for the Queen has been a highlight of my career and although there was no foot-tapping, she certainly sent a nod of approval my way. This event in Ipswich is one of its kind because I will be providing the music to accompany some really incredible professional dancers.”
Also joining Ray will be award-winning burlesque performer Luna Rosa, mime artist Kiki Lovechild, dancers Ella Boo and Ooh La Loo and hula hooper Storm Hooper from The Folly Mixtures.
The Rat Pack, Ocean’s Eleven, Las Vegas style event has been organised by promoter Mister Jack.
“We’re very excited to be bringing the legendary Ray Gelato to Ipswich. His band is set to pay homage to a glittering array of American big band legends and the night will bring a real slice of Las Vegas to Suffolk,” a spokesman added.
