Synth-pop legends Marc Almond and OMD play Ipswich Regent

Synth-pop pioneers Marc Almond and OMD head to Ipswich this year.

Marc’s October 14 Regent gig sees him perform orchestral arrangements of hits from his 36-year career alongside iconic torch songs and 1960s orchestral pop from new album Shadows and Reflections, which includes songs by the likes of Billy Fury, David Bowie and Burt Bacharach.
He’s been at the forefront of British pop music since finding fame in the early 1980s with synth-pop duo Soft Cell before going on to a successful solo career that has seen him sell more than 30million records worldwide.
Marc also plays Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion October 23.
OMD’s November 2 Regent gig will follow hot on the heels of their 13th studio album, The Punishment of Luxury, which is out September 1 on 100% Records.
“On this album we have managed to make beautiful things out of noises and repetitive patterns. The trouble is, we just can’t help but write a catchy melody,” says Andy McCluskey, who wrote, recorded, produced and mixed it alongside Paul Humphreys.
The album takes its name from an 1891 painting by the Italian Giovani Segantini and contains everything from the Kraftwerkian Isotype and Robot Man to soul ballads One More Time and The View From Here as well as more traditional OMD songs like Kiss Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Bang and the synth heavy title track.

OMD have influenced the likes of The xx, the Killers, LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy, Future Islands and Chvrches.
They also play Southend’s Cliffs Pavilion November 1.
