A Toad in a Hole

Enjoy a rip-roaring afternoon at the pantomime, traditional family fun for everyone.

The first Aldeburgh and Coastal Young People’s Film Festival

Where: Leiston Film Theatre, The Riverside Woodbridge, The Cut Halesworth, Ipswich Film Theatre, Orford Town Hall, Lowestoft Library and in Aldeburgh Cinema’s Main Auditorium plus special pop-up venues

The festival caters for those aged three and over, and promises to entertain and inspire young people.

This weekend you can see Landfill Harmonic at The Cut Halesworth at 7.30pm Saturday, suitable for those aged 10 and over.

Throughout the next week there are various events including screenings of The Big Knights in Woodbridge, Aldeburgh, Lowestoft and Ipswich and Shorts for Wee Ones in Leiston.

The Magic of Minsmere Walk

Where: RSPB Minsmere

When: Sunday, February 7

Times: 9.15am - last approximately three hours

Cost: Adults £8, students £5.50 and children £4, plus usual reserve entry fees.

An ideal walk for newcomers to Minsmere, the walk lets you see some of the 5,300 recorded species at the reserve as well as giving you a flavour of its wealth of history and archaeological highlights.

The friendly and knowledgeable RSPB guides will take you through the sights and sounds to be enjoyed at this time of year.

Walks generally last 2-3 hours and are tailored according to the season and visitor knowledge

Not Now, Bernard and other Monster Stories

Where: Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds

When: Saturday, February 6

Times: 11am and 2pm

Cost: Children £8.50 to £10.50, adults £8.50 to £13.50

Expect masks, puppets, music, possibly the biggest teddy in the world, and lots and lots of mess as David McKee’s much-loved Not Now, Bernard comes to life on stage.

There will also be two other wonderfully funny, and not too scary, monster stories to accompany the show.

Where: Lackford Lakes

Times: Between 11am to 3pm

Take a closer look at winter ducks with the team at Lackford Lakes, you can look out for and listen to sounds of ducks as you wander around the reserve trails.

Wildlife guides will be positioned at certain locations with telescopes allowing you and your children an even closer look at the ducks that are around.

There will b duck facts on the information boards by the trails and children can pick up a winter duck-themed spotter sheet from the visitor centre.

Storymaker

Where: New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich

When: Saturday, February 6

Times: 11am and 12pm

Cost: Free

If you’re three or four years old and love silly stories and tremendous tales then you’ve got to go and meet the Storymaker at the New Wolsey Theatre at 11am.

Mums, dads, grans, grandads, big brothers and big sisters can join you too.

Storymaker takes place in the upstairs foyer of the theatre where the children sit on cushions around the Storymaker chair.

At midday, children aged five and six can visit the Storymaker, taking an amazing adventure, or an exciting escapade.

Parents can join in the fun, or wait in the cafe downstairs for the second session.

It is the Year of The Monkey and you can enjoy a traditional Chinese New Year celebration at the New Wolsey.

There is an exciting line-up of traditional and Western style performances of dance, singing, and musical instruments performed by local members of the community alongside professional acts.

Take a trip to the museum in the centre of Bury St Edmunds and see the amazing Brick City exhibition, with model versions of the museum itself, the Olympic Stadium, the Rio carnival and a plethera of European and American cities.

Try your hand at Lego, and see some of the other historical exhibitions on display.
