Curated by the New Wolsey Theatre and China Plate, the 10-day event is now in its 15th year. Paul Warwick, of China Plate, said it’s hard to pick highlights from this year’s programme of more than 50 shows.

“This year’s opening double-bill is a great night out featuring two Total Theatre Award winning companies - Barely Methodical’s hugely energetic circus piece Bromance and Idle Motion’s stunning That Is All You Need to Know, which lifts the lid on events at Bletchley Park during the Second World War. I, Malvolio from UK theatre legend Tim Crouch is a must for anyone thinking of bringing teenage children.”

New this year is Ramps On The Moon, a day of programming focused on deaf and disabled artists and audiences. Working with agent for change Jamie Beddard, PULSE aims to increase the number of such audiences by offering more accessible performances and programming more work with disabled performers.

Designed to inspire theatre-makers to think and act differently around disability and inclusion, there will be talks and performances from Fingersmiths and Sue Maclaine among others.

Also new this year will be an evening of work created by young people, consisting of a double bill featuring A+E performed by students from East 15 acting school with the New Wolsey Theatre’s Young Associate Artists present Births, Deaths and Marriages.

The Scratch Day returns, giving audiences the chance of an early glimpse of ideas artists are working on right now. The Suitcase Prize Day is back for the third year, with a prize for the best environmentally sustainable show which can be toured on public transport while the Children and Young People’s Day features ticketed and free performances and family activities.

The festival, running May 28-June 6, ends each day with free music in the New Wolsey bar. See next Friday’s Event for more from the New Wolsey and China Plate on this year’s programme.
