Police are encouraging music lovers to keep an eye on their possessions during this weekend's V Festival.

Seymour, Essex Police’s crime prevention mascot, will feature in a video shown on the big screens urging people to stay safe and look out for their friends.

Ch Supt Simon Williams said: “People come from all over the country to see some top acts and enjoy the atmosphere. However, there are those who come to commit crime such as selling drugs, peddling dodgy merchandise and stealing property.”

Ch Insp Jon Hayter added: “The festival has always been a fantastic occasion. Criminals are warned the extensive array of CCTV will combat their actions, with strong measures being taken against them.

“We want to remind festival goers legal highs will not be tolerated and anyone found in possession of them could be prosecuted and removed from the festival.”

The East of England Ambulance Service has also issued advice to revellers.

Last year crews treated around 550 people with ailments ranging from broken ankles, chest pain, and an over-indulgence of alcohol. The majority of people were treated at the scene, with just 30 requiring hospital care.

Festival goers are advised to keep drinking water, take sun cream and extra clothing for all weather eventualities, and ensure they have enough medication for pre-existing conditions.
