FlipSide, East Anglia’s leading literary and arts festival based at the Snape Maltings, has launched an enviromentally-themed competition aimed at writers of all ages.

The competition will be judged by leading authors Jackie Kay, the Scots Makar (poet laureate), writer Blake Morrison and Jon Canter, novelist and playwright.

“We are looking for inspirational writing about the environment,” says Liz Calder, co-founder of FlipSide. “We hope to encourage writers to think creatively about their surroundings and how to care for them.”

Submissions must take any letter of the alphabet and use it in a piece of writing on a green theme – poetry, fiction or non-fiction. Prose entries should be no more than 500 words and poems no more than 40 lines. The deadline is 31st July, 2017. Entries will be considered for a forthcoming anthology.

First prize for adults: £500 and under 16s: £200. Full details can be found on the website : www.flipsideuk.org
