Are you game for a laugh?

Then the launch of new comedy nights at Isaacs on the Quay, next Thursday, April 23 could be just for you.

Big Cheese Comedy is presenting a first comedy night on Thursday, and it is free for customers.

Promoter Colin Kreidewolf said: “We hope this will lead to a regular series of comedy nights here.

“We have already been to Venue 77 (in Fore Hamlet) and that has been successful. We will be going back there for regular Friday nights later in the year, from September. The first Friday of the month. It is a nice venue for comedy, for perhaps 120 people in the audience. Comedy is quite popular. I would like to develop it further.”

His Big Cheese Comedy has been running for five years, with shows as far as London and the South Coast, but mainly in this region.

“We are wanting to to develop the comedy circuit in the Colchester, Ipswich and Felixstowe area. We are happy to do three or four gigs a month.

“We have some very good national performers, and it is usually quite affordable, with tickets from around £8.

“This show at Isaacs is free and our headliners, Brian Damage and Krystaal have always gone down well when we have booked them previously.”

Ipswich Town fan and borough councillor Colin Kreidewolf said: “I can’t tell a joke to save my life, but I love comedy.

“My business partner Carl Day does stand-up, and he compere for this night. I think I am even nervous for him when he is on stage.”

Colin is originally a Chantry boy - “I was a ball boy at Portman Road with Keith Deller,” he said.

“For 30 years I worked in the City before making my way back to Ipswich a couple of years ago.

“When I was in London I used to go to a lot of the comedy clubs.

“I thought why not do it here?”

They had put on comedy at Bury St Edmunds rugby club, at Felixstowe, Trimley St Mary and regularly at Colchester football stadium, which was very popular, he said.

“We have had some really good acts, including locals Anthony Dewson and Jusin Panks, Imran Yusef, Zoe Lyons, Ian Stone and Nathan Caton.

“I liken it to the football.

“The Premierships stars are playing the Regent, we are putting on the Championship stars who are looking for promotion.

“It has been great to see some of our acts developing their acts and becoming more confident over time.”

The launch comedy night, at Isaacs on the Quay, on Thursday April 23, features Brian Damage and Krystaal, and Jay Sodegar, with MC Carl Day.

Entry is free.
