Prepare to be scared at Halloween as Inside No 9 announces it will be airing a live special designed to deliver maximum creepiness on the most ghostly night of the year - and the BBC has also announced another favourite comedy will be back in autumn, too.

When I’m not writing about TV, I am writing about weird things which means that it’s double the joy when my two worlds collide – and they just have: Inside No 9 is planning a LIVE special for Halloween.

The spectacular anthology series (my most recent review is here ) is a dark and twisted journey into the minds of writers Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton and links a set of self-contained stories by a single number: nine.

The writers have just revealed that they will be back with a one-off special aired on Halloween, October 31, which will be broadcast to the viewing public completely live.

Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the BBC have said both Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith will appear in “a twisted tale which will aim to surprise, delight, unnerve and amuse in equal measure”. Let’s hope they’re bringing back Pipes from 1992’s Ghostwatch – the live action spoof ghost investigation was so realistic that three women went into labour due to the shock of watching the show and a vicar phoned the BBC to complain that the corporation had “raised demonic forces”.

In other news, BBC2’s Motherland has been commissioned for a second series, which will be set in a new school term. God speed Autumn.
