Over a thousand people are set to run through the streets of Ipswich tomorrow as the Twilight 10k run returns. Here are the key details of road closures, timings and things to remember.
There will be 38 road closures for tomorrow’s run - the closures will start from 7pm and last until 9pm. The chart below displays which roads will be closed so you can plan your journey around this if you are travelling through and around the town centre.
Start and finish
There will be approximately 1,500 runners taking part in the race. The start and finish line are both on Rope Walk outside Suffolk New College. The race will begin at 7.30pm and all participants will start at the same time. The aim is to complete the race before sunset which should be around 8.30pm. The time limit for this event is one and a half hours - after this time roads will be opened and the route may no longer be marshalled. If you need a place to warm up, Alexandra Park is situated behind the college near the holding area.
The main change to this year’s race compared to last year is that tomorrow will just be one 10k race whereas last year a 5k was also held on the same day. The reason behind the change was so the race could start later in the evening and not during a peak time when people are trying to get home from work. It is hoped by 7pm the traffic would have eased and the race wont affect as many people. The 5k race took place in May and attracted hundreds of runners and elite athletes.
Each runner will receive a medal, a bottle of water and a goody bag when they have completed the race. The first three men and first three women will also get a trophy and money. The first place winners will receive £50, second place £30 and third £20. There will be a prize presentation outside the atrium of Suffolk New College at approximately 8.45pm.
All runners participating will have had their numbers sent to them in the post it is essential that these are worn and are visible through out the race.
Best place to stand to watch
If you are wanting to watch the run the best places to stand are near the start line, outside Vodka Revs and at the Cornhill.
