‘Stein up your life’ at one of Suffolk’s Oktoberfest events

Oktoberfest - the traditional German beer festival - is coming to Suffolk this month, giving drinkers a chance to immerse themselves in Bavarian culture.

The festival, traditionally based in Munich, actually runs across September and October, and draws in millions of visitors from around the world.

It is the largest beer festival in the world and celebration extended to Ipswich last year, and this time it will grace the streets of Colchester and Bury St Edmunds.

We’ve gathered four places you can enjoy the celebrations in Suffolk, giving you the perfect way to spend your October weekends.

Oktoberfest, Ipswich Corn Exchange, Ipswich - Saturday, October 6

Ipswich’s very own Oktoberfest is back for another year, transforming the Corn Exchange into a Bavarian bash. Featuring endless beer on tap, authentic bites to eat, foot stomping, and never-ending dancing, it’s not one be missed.

Trestle tables are £18 per person, or you can upgrade to VIP for £29. You must be 18 or over to attend the evening which gets underway at 7.30pm.

Oktoberfest, The Sorrel Horse, Shottisham - Friday, October 5 to Sunday, October 6

Feel like you are really in Munich by trying one of the Sorrel Horse’s German-themed dishes and drinking one of their traditional German beers.

With music from a fantastic Pink Floyd tribute act on the Friday, and the amazing Flaming Cheek on the Saturday, you will always have something to feast your eyes on.

Entry is free to all on both days, with the celebrations starting at 7pm on Friday and 12pm on Saturday.

Oktoberfest Colchester, Lower Castle Park, Colchester- Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27

The world’s largest beer and folk festival is coming to Colchester for the first time ever! Traditionally the renowned festival takes place in Munich, but over the years it has spread its wings worldwide, with its giant tents popping up in cities all over the world.

The event will be Essex’s biggest Oktoberfest with three sessions across the two days. Expect live oompah bands, table bashing and steins of beer galore. You must be over 18 to attend, with ticket prices ranging from £11-£22 per session. You can find out more information and buy tickets here.

Oktoberfest Bury St Edmunds, The Apex, Bury St Edmunds- Saturday, October 27

The world famous Oktoberfest will also be pitching its tents in Bury St Edmunds this October.

Join hundreds of fellow beer-lovers as the popular Apex is transformed into a Bavarian Wunderland with copious amounts of its famous Bavarian bratwurst. But be quick, as evening seated tickets are already sold out. You can still get afternoon tickets for £15, or even book a table for your group for £40 here.

Oktoberfest Norwich, Open Norwich Banking Hall, Norwich - Thursday, October 11 to Saturday, October 11

Love the sound of dancing on tables and drinking pints of Germany’s finest beers? Open Norwich will celebrate Oktoberfest by transforming into a supersize German themed Bierkeller.

But this Bavarian celebration comes with a twist, it’s very own prosecco bar. Enjoy a glass of fizz while listening to music from classic German oompah bands, all while raising money for the Open Youth Trust. Get your tickets here.
