A cold Monday night couldn’t stop Anglo-Iranian comedian Omid Djalili warming up a delighted Regent as he rolled into Ipswich for the latest stop on his Schmuck for a Night mega-tour.

Combining his infectious enthusiasm for all things British with a remarkably ballsy approach to racism and multiculturalism, Omid knows how to work a crowd, and keeps his colourful gags on the right side of tasteful.

Observations on Donald Trump and Brexit, while expected, were delightful with his international outlook, and a closing segment on creative football chants helped balance the weighty subjects with the absurd.

Of particular note were his spiel on a Middle-Eastern cousin’s deep inside information on each of his UK tour stops (including Chantry’s inspiration for George Orwell’s 1984) and a series of gags on ISIS application forms.

A treat from start to finish for a thrilled Regent rabble.
