Ipswich is full of some magnificent buildings and landmarks that span across varying eras, displaying the great history of our town.
From the Anglo-Catholic church on Elm Street, St Mary’s at the Elm, which has parts dating back as early as the 11th Century to the breath-taking 16th Century Christchurch Mansion, built after Henry VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries between 1536 and 1541.
The town has so many fantastic buildings to admire, including the Ancient House which was built in the 15th Century, which isn’t quite as ancient as some of buildings we are lucky to have in Ipswich, and is located at the Buttermarket in the town centre.
The exterior is covered with beautiful pargetry that represents Europe, America, Africa and Asia, as well detailed wood carvings that were added to the building by Robert Sparrowe between 1660 and 1670.
