Parents of twins and triplets have opened a multiples club for local families to support each other and have lots of fun.

Ipswich Multiples Club will provide advice, friendship and a safe place for parents of twins, triplets and more based in and around Ipswich.

Shannon Steele, a mum of triplets and Nicola McCarthy and Jo Wilder, mums of twins, who are the committee members of the club, said that the idea for the initiative was born from a What’s App twin group that was set up during the pandemic.

They added: “With many of the children being born during the lockdowns, socialisation has never been more important to help with child development and parents' mental health.

“Being a parent of multiples is a unique experience, and we have all come to rely on each other for support, friendship and laughter.

“After we had been chatting, we realised that many families with twins and triplets are based in and around Ipswich.

“It’s great that there was already a Felixstowe-based group, but with the cost-of-living crisis and some families relying on public transport, getting to Felixstowe each week was difficult for some families.

“The idea for an Ipswich-based club grew from there.”

The members of Ipswich Multiples Club have already found their perfect location at the Alan Road Methodist Church and will launch on November 11.

Parents with their babies and toddlers will meet up every Friday from 9.30 am to 11.30 am to play, chat and have lots of fun.

The weekly admission costs just £3, but the members ask everybody to help them ensure the future of the club and donate money on their fundraising page.

The non-profit association of parents hopes that the club will provide a fun, relaxed and inclusive space for local families.

The parents and carers of multiples will have a chance to spend time together, share experiences and socialise.

The committee members of the Ipswich Multiples Club added: “Each week there will be a themed craft activity, a singing session, hot drink for adults as well as a drink and snack for the children provided in the £3 weekly fee.

“We are also planning our future events, such as Christmas celebrations.”
