A college in Ipswich is set to reopen this week after a fire closed the building last week.

Staff and students from One Sixth From College were told classes were cancelled and to stay at home after a fire broke out in the early hours of Friday morning.

Two fire engines from Ipswich East and Princes Street attended the scene at 1.50am.

No one was harmed in the incident but minor damage was caused to the kitchen area and the sprinkler system released a large quantity of water into the Turquoise zone.

A spokesman for the college has confirmed it will be reopening on Monday, March 18.

A statement on social media reads: "As a result of damage to the kitchen, there'll only be cold food from the Refectory & Bistro for the next two weeks.

"The fire caused some minor damage, but the building has been checked and cleared for us to fully open again Monday."
