A Suffolk shipping firm has donated a large sum to Claydon FC girls' team to help them attend an initiation-only football tournament in Nottingham.

The under-14 Claydon FC side had their first match set for June 22, but the team required money to accommodate the costs of travel and accommodation and set up a JustGiving page.

MSC UK a cargo, shipping and logistics company with headquarters based in Ipswich, as well as being one of the sponsors of Ipswich Town, donated £500 to the team so they can attend the ACES national tournament in Nottingham this summer.

An MSC spokesperson said: "As a large local employer, we have many employees whose families benefit greatly from local clubs and groups, such as Claydon U14’s Girls Team, and we are proud to play a small part in supporting their future."

Rachel Martin, one of the team managers, was thankful for the donation.

He said: "We are all overwhelmed by the generosity of local companies in this fundraiser.

"The receipt of this extra gift from MSC will help make sure our girls have a really special experience it takes a bit of pressure off the volunteers who would normally have to fund it ourselves."
