TRADERS have been banned from cold calling in another of the town’s roads.

Holyrood Close is the latest street to have been declared a “No Cold Calling Zone” by Suffolk County Council, Suffolk police and Suffolk Trading Standards.

It has become the 40th zone across Suffolk after the first No Cold Calling Zone in the county was launched in Ipswich in April 2009.

No Cold Calling Zones are designed to discourage rogue traders and empower vulnerable residents to say “no” to uninvited doorstep sellers and protect themselves from distraction burglaries.

Colin Spence, Suffolk County Council’s cabinet member for public protection, said: “Whilst some doorstep sellers may be legitimate traders, cold calling is often used by unscrupulous or rogue traders, and is a method sometimes used in distraction burglary.”

The road is now marked with signs in the street explaining that the area is a No Cold Calling Zone and residents have been given stickers to display in their windows to show they do not want people calling at their doors.

No Cold Calling Zones were recently unveiled in Meadowvale Close, Glencoe Road, Aberfoyle Close, Roxburgh Road and Kinross Road in Ipswich. To report suspicious incidents, call Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.
