A Chinese takeaway worker who hacked at the neck of his employer with a cleaver in a “truly horrific and brutal attack” has been jailed for 10 years.

Lianjun Sun, 51, of Cromer Road in Ipswich, had previously been cleared of attempted murder following the incident in Garrick Way, Ipswich, on the afternoon of November 1 last year, but he admitted to inflicting grievous bodily harm on Ruo Jun Tian.

Ms Tian, described in court as being a “female Gordon Ramsay” in the kitchen, was found unconscious with serious neck injuries after being hit with two ‘massive blows’ from a meat cleaver.

She suffered deep lacerations around her neck and was taken to hospital. She survived the attack.

Officers then went to an address in Cromer Road that afternoon and Sun was arrested. During a search of his home, a top with blood stains on it and three -blood stained tissues were found.

The court heard Sun and Ms Tian had a disagreement at the takeaway food premises where they both worked, which resulted in the victim being attacked by him, with what was believed to be a large knife or meat cleaver.

Sun was sentenced to 10 years in prison at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday.

Following the sentencing, Detective Sergeant Carl Dye said: “This was a truly horrific and brutal attack on the victim, one I am sure will take her many years to get over both psychologically and physically.

“I am encouraged by the sentenced imposed on Lianjun Sun and I would like to thank those who not only came to the assistance of the victim on the day but also assisted us throughout the investigation which has enabled justice to be done.”
