In 2000, Ipswich Town stars Matt Holland, Jim Magilton, Mick Stockwell and Gary Croft officially opened the new A&E department at Ipswich Hospital alongside team manager George Burley and chairman David Sheepshanks.

The players greeted the hospital staff, signed autographs and posed for pictures with patients and visitors who attended to the opening more than 17 years ago.

A plaque was unveiled at the hospital by then ITFC chairman David Sheepshank to mark the occasion.

The new building opened at the Ipswich Hospital site, in Heath Road, in January 2000, just five months before Ipswich went on to win promotion to the Premier League.

The team’s success came after they beat Barnsley 4-2 in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium.
