A blaze at a family-owned fish and chip shop has forced it to close for the foreseeable future, bosses have announced.
Firefighters were called to tackle a small bin fire at Mariani’s at Neptunes Fish and Chips in Duke Street on Friday morning.
Now the owners of the popular fish bar have apologised to customers in a Facebook post.
“Due to a small bin fire that occurred last night we will be closed for the foreseeable future,” they said.
“We apologise for any inconvenience and hope to see you all back once we reopen.”
Two fire engines were sent to reports of a blaze at the shop following reports of smoke inside it.
Fire crews were sent to the scene at around 7.22am on Friday.
People living nearby reported seeing smoke coming from the building, which is on the corner of Tye Road and Duke Street.
A spokesman for the fire service confirmed there was a blaze at the property, which was extinguished within an hour.
Firefighters left the scene shortly before 8am.
