Students at Yatton Junior School welcomed Jim Cole – better known as Jim Gump – for an activities session outside.

Teacher James Bertenshaw said: “He came into our school to launch his Kx365 Challenge, which asks the children to aim to be active every day for 365 days.

“His visit was inspirational in the fact he is a very enigmatic speaker, but he is also a ‘marathon man’ himself who runs on average seven miles a day.”

“His challenge addresses the Government’s target of getting children more active.”

The school is the first in North Somerset to give Jim’s challenge a go and it proved to be a hit with the children.

Mr Bertenshaw added: “Jim recently completed his 2,000th consecutive day of running at least 10km a day without a day off, covering 20,000 miles.

“Along the way, he visits schools to encourage the children to be more physically active through storytelling of his adventures with his dog, before then running with the children.”
