AMERICAN singer and actress Eartha Kitt has died from cancer at the age of 81.
The singer, who became famous in the 1950s and 1960s with hits like “Old Fashioned Girl” and “Santa Baby” had been treated in New York - but continued performing into her 80s.
During the 1960s she was blacklisted in her native America after denouncing the Vietnam War during a visit to the White House, but she remained a firm favourite in Britain and Europe.
And she even attracted younger audiences with a guest appearance as Catwoman in the camp 1960s Batman series.
