A CAPED crusader from Ipswich, who embarked on a sponsored bike ride with his young sidekick, has today thanked everyone for their donations.
Charlie Baker, joint owner of Whip Street Motors, cycled from his home in Colchester Road to Felixstowe, dressed as batman. He picked up his five-year-old daughter, Charlise, alias Batgirl, from Levington and she had a seat at the back as the dynamic duo cycled the rest of the way via the back roads.
They managed to raise £1,010 and as promised, the company matched donations so the total being handed over to St Elizabeth Hospice is £2,020.
Mr Baker has taken part in a number of fundraising activities for St Elizabeth Hospice over the years and was delighted to raise so much money.
The 29-year-old, who owns Whip Street Motors with his three brothers, said: “My daughter absolutely loved it. I'm very proud of her and the fact that she actually wanted to do it.
“It wasn't that difficult. Charlise was saying 'go faster daddy' so that kept me going.
“I would like to thank everyone who donated money. It is good the money is going to such a good cause.
“Someone sponsored me £10 to walk through the market at Felixstowe so I did it. I got lots of comments-it was all good banter.”
Laura Backhouse, community fundraiser, said: “We are very grateful to Charlie and all who contributed to this event. It costs £10 per minute to run St Elizabeth Hospice, so we rely on the support of the local community to enable us to continue to provide care for our patients and their families, friends and carers.”
Mr Baker will be calling for more support in December when he dresses up as Santa Claus and cycles to work in aid of the hospice
