COCK-A-HOOP Kevin Lisbie believes he will score more for Ipswich Town this coming season than the 17 goals he got for Colchester because he is with a better team.

Lisbie is not showing any disrespect to his old club but two goals in two incomplete games already for the Blues has him convinced he can go on a goal spree.

Lisbie netted the winner after going on as a late substitute against West Brom, and scored the opener at Brighton before being replaced.

Lisbie said: “I do expect to get more goals this season because I'm with a better team

“If you look at my ratio at Colchester I didn't get that many chances but those I did I put away.

“With Ipswich I feel I will get more chances and it is up to me to put them away.

“In the two games I played, especially at Brighton, I felt I had a lot of chances.”

It has been too early to see who Lisbie will best forge a partnership with after the big-man, little-man partnership with Clive Platt at Layer Road last year worked so well.

Lisbie said: “It is hard at first to get an understanding with other forwards so quickly and I'm sure we will get an understanding.

“I'm not sure what the gaffer is looking to do. There is Counago too and if he does bring in another striker then there will be four and that is good competition.”

Although the two goals came in friendlies Lisbie says their importance should not be underestimated.

He added: “Getting two goals in two games is a big confidence booster. Any striker will tell you it is important to get goals early for your new club and that is exactly what I have done.”

After an intensive fitness session with coach Simon Thadani, Lisbie feels he is up to speed and has joined in full training.

He said: “My fitness is fine and I'm allowed to do ball work. It is case of getting used to the other lads now.

“They type of football is easy for me to adapt to with so many quality players throughout the team.

“I played against Ipswich last season and I know how they play football. One of the main things for coming here was I knew the style of play would suit me.”
