POLITICIANS have also come out against the move.

John Gummer, MP for Suffolk Coastal, attended the consultation meeting in Felixstowe last week to make his views clear, and has also asked a series of questions to the Department of Health.

Chris Mole, Ipswich's MP, also has serious concerns about the impact the move could have on facial trauma services, leaving patients with life-threatening injuries needing to be transferred to Norwich or Chelmsford for treatment.

And Tim Yeo, South Suffolk MP, has also backed spoken publicly about his concerns.

Meanwhile Andrew Lansley, the shadow health secretary, also visited Ipswich and spoke about his concerns over the move.

He said: "This department has built up expertise and capabilities over a decade and a half and you can't just pick it up and move it.

“The idea that you can concentrate all the services in one place is mistaken and certainly not necessary if outcomes are good already, as they are in this case.

“I've noticed more than once that there seems to be a law of unintended consequences; when one service moves something else is affected.”
