If YOU'RE thinking Joanna Lumley has let herself go, think again.

Life's a drag for Clive Eaton, who tarted himself up for a day at work and raised a handsome sum for Parkinson's disease.

The novel fundraising idea originated on a night out with friends in Ipswich.

Mr Eaton, 55, of Stoke Street, Ipswich, said: “We go out on the town a lot at the weekends. One night I made an offhand comment about a group of women and said I would look better dressed as a woman.”

Mr Eaton's friends took him up on the statement and invited him to eat, drink and be Mary at an upcoming fancy dress party. Mr Eaton obliged but was presented with another wager.

He said: “Someone at the party offered me a bet that I wouldn't be brave enough to actually go out in public dressed that way.”

Never one to shirk a challenge, Mr Eaton, an agent for a credit company in Ipswich, insisted he could go one better and spend an entire work day getting to grips with his stiletto heels. But rather than do it purely for the amusement of his peers, Mr Eaton decided to glam it up for a good cause.

He said: “A colleague of mine, Nigel Hanbrook, suffers from Parkinson's so I thought I could raise some money for the Parkinson's disease Society while proving a point.”

So Mr Eaton got his glad rags on, hopped in his car and completed a slightly unusual day of house calls.

Before he could even ladder his tights, Mr Eaton had raised £300 for the charity and then came one final dare from his merciless pals.

He said: “They promised me more money for the charity if I would go to the pub still dressed up. They barely recognised me when I got there and only believed it was me when I started speaking.”

Mr Eaton made a stop at The Grinning Rat, Mannings, The Salutation and Isaacs, collecting nearly even more money from generous landlords.

Mr Eaton thanked everyone for their kind donations. He has returned to normal work attire for the time being and wasn't tempted to make a habit of his peculiar activities. With that in mind, his company have agreed to add £200 to the fundraising pot.
