SOME waste and recycling bins in Suffolk are still not being picked up on time, two weeks after the end of a nationwide strike by refuse collectors and other council staff.

The regular collections services in Suffolk Coastal are still being disrupted, with householders being told to put out their rubbish until it is collected.

The two day strike was called by Unison, in protest at a below-inflation pay offer of 2.45 per cent by employers representing county, unitary, metropolitan, and district councils throughout England.

However, two weeks after a return to work, there is still a knock-on effect on regular collection services in the Suffolk Coastal area.

The district council, based in Melton, has appealed to residents to continue putting out their refuse bags and recycling bins on their normal collection days this week.

“Nearly all refuse collections are back to normal, but up to half of the brown bin service for food and garden waste is still running behind schedule,” a spokesman for the authority said.

“The advice from Suffolk Coastal Services (SCS) is that residents should put their waste and recycling out for collection on their normal day from 7.30am and if it is not all picked up on the due day, to put it out again from 7.30am on the following days until it is collected.”
