A SECTION of the A14 had to be closed this morning as police talked a man down from the edge of the Orwell Bridge.

Police received a call at about 5am from a concerned driver who saw the man sitting on the westbound parapet of the bridge.

The 32-year-old was seen to be drinking from a bottle of alcohol.

Both lanes of the bridge were closed for an hour and diversions were put in place at Nacton and Wherstead while police negotiated with the man.

The road was reopened after the man agreed to come down from the parapet.
