POLICE are today hunting a man who attempted an armed robbery in Norfolk.

The gun-wielding man threatened staff and attempted to rob a busy food store in Hellesdon at lunchtime on Sunday.

Police are looking for witnesses to the incident at Budgens on the corner of Meadow Way and Cromer Road.

The man entered the store at about noon, acting suspiciously, and then threatened the cashier with a gun and demanded money.

The cashier and another member of staff managed to get away into another area of the shop and he didn't get any money.

He fled on foot in the direction of the off-licence Bottom's Up.

The man is described as 35 to 40-years-old, about 6ft tall, quite chubby around the face and clean shaven.

At the time of the incident he was wearing large round or oval black plastic rimmed glasses and a long-sleeved blue hooded jumper with the hood up, dark blue jeans and black shoes.

Pc Sophie Nicholas, Norwich CID, said: “There were a number of people in the shop at the time who may have seen the man.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the store between 11.55am and 12.05pm to contact me, even if they don't think they have seen anything important.

“I also would like to speak to anyone who thinks they may have seen this man in the Meadow Way/Cromer Road area of Hellesdon before or after the incident.”
